At Hi Coruña, we continue to innovate and create spaces where collective intelligence comes to life. That’s why we present “Once Upon a Network”, our first videopodcast created and produced by us where we address the debate between humanism and the scientific and technological world.
Based on a literary text, of any genre, era, or culture, and establishing a network of connections with other artistic disciplines, we will talk about the present world and the topics associated with scientific and technological progress. To do this, we will have guests from both sides of knowledge. We are not going to confront humanists and technologists; we are not going to confront literature and science: we are going to unite both cultures.
Episode 0: the Two Cultures
To start this adventure, Episode 0 will be the starting point, a journey to the roots of this initiative. In this chapter we talk about the purpose of “Once Upon a Network”, what kind of stories we will tell and how each episode will help us better understand the world around us.
This episode 0 is dedicated to the debate initiated by Snow, extended to the entire world and intensified, perhaps due to the fact that the negative effects of the separation between science and the humanities are becoming more evident every day.
If you want to learn more about this debate, we leave you more information.
Episode 1: “the Stranger”. Albert Camus and Alan Turing
The first episode of “Once Upon a Network” arrives with a high-level debate: What is the relationship between the novel The Stranger by Albert Camus and the brilliant mind of Alan Turing? Through a deep and enriching conversation, we will address how Camus’ existentialism and Turing’s technological vision can help us better understand the current world.
The Stranger, a timeless classic, published in 1942 and one of the key works of existentialist thought. Its author, Albert Camus, was undoubtedly one of the great thinkers of the 20th century. We use this essential literary work to establish a unique network of connection with another brilliant mind, that of the scientist and mathematician Alan Turing.
As a presenter we have Silvia Salgado, writer and expert in narratives, who will lead the conversation with two very special guests: Alba Meijide, AI consultant, and Raquel Díaz Seijas, Doctor of Philosophy and professor at the University of Coruña (UDC).
Once upon a Network Format
Each recording of the video podcast will feature a live discussion at Hi Coruña. A space for the exchange of ideas where you can share your reflections on The Stranger, the figure of Turing and how their legacies impact digital society.
Each episode will feature the presence of experts, writers, scientists and creative minds who will help us expand our vision. In addition, we will promote dialogue through discussions and meetings that will serve as a preamble to each recording. We want “Once Upon a Network” to be a space where you can also contribute, debate and share your perspective.
